Dyscalculia is a learning difference that affects a person’s ability to understand and work with numbers. Sometimes referred to as "math dyslexia," it can make basic math skills—like counting, comparing quantities, or understanding math symbols—feel confusing and overwhelming.

Children with dyscalculia are often intelligent and capable but may struggle with:
  • Anxiety during tasks involving numbers

  • Retaining previously learned math concepts

  • Organizing processes with mutiple steps, such as long division

  • Playing games that involve reading dice or keeping track of scores

  • Applying math skills practically

  • Remembering basic math facts, such as multiplication tables

  • Telling time and understanding the passage of time

  • Understanding the value of money and making change

  • Spatial reasoning, such as understanding shapes and directions
